Developing a Strategy

Develop a Numbers-Based Renewables Plan (Optional)

Cities that want to set quantitative renewables targets for community-wide load (e.g., 100% renewable energy for an entire city by 2030) may find it useful to develop a technically validated plan. Executing such a plan often requires significant demand-side management action (managing electricity demand) and policy and regulatory engagement, and may require accelerated retirement of fossil-fuel-based assets. If you are interested in creating such a plan, there are many external advisors and consultants that can assist you in this process. RMI’s Community Energy Resource Guide presents a roadmap for creating these types of comprehensive city plans. For city examples, see the City of Atlanta’s Clean Energy Plan and the City of Los Angeles’s Green New Deal.
