Finding customers to subscribe to your project can involve a lot of time and capacity. While some community solar developers also specialize in customer subscription, it is also possible to do this internally or to use a third party to facilitate the subscription process. Your city may work with a third party that could help with marketing subscriptions, enrolling customers, and billing them. Or your city could create an internal program. For example, Boulder, Colorado, worked with a third party called Energy Outreach Colorado, which bought the city’s subscription and marketed energy access through the subscription to LMI customers at 50% savings.
Another thing to consider when acquiring LMI subscribers is to look into state weatherization and bill assistance offices to find programs that support LMI customers.
