Building, Training, and Assessment Centers (BTAC)

Federal Agency

Sub-Department

Office of State and Community Energy Programs (SCEP)

Purpose

To establish a competitive grant program to help institutions of higher education establish building training and assessment centers to educate and train building technicians and engineers on implementing modern building technologies.

Applicant and/or Project Eligibility Requirements

Eligible entities are state-accredited technical training centers, community colleges, Tribal Colleges or Universities, and local offices of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

Decarbonization Considerations

Skills and knowledge gaps prevent clean energy, efficiency, electrification, and other sustainability solutions from being implemented. By addressing these gaps with specialized education centers, applicants can accelerate deployment of a skilled workforce ready for the clean energy economy.

Equity Considerations

Education can target underserved communities and give people access to high-road jobs in the clean energy economy. Consider designing training programs aimed at re-training workers from fossil fuel industries, if applicable, as well to help with workforce transitions.
