Vehicle Technologies Office Program Wide Funding Opportunity

Federal Agency

Sub-Department

Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE)

Purpose

To advance research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) in several areas critical to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, including: reduction of weight and cost of batteries, reduction in life cycle emissions of advanced lightweight materials, reduced costs and advanced technologies for both on- and off-road vehicle charging and infrastructure, innovative public transit solutions, and training to increase deployment of these technologies among diverse communities.

Applicant and/or Project Eligibility Requirements

Eligible entities include institutions of higher education, for-profit entities, non-profit entities, state and local governmental entities, and Tribal Nations. Foreign entities, incorporated consortia, and unincorporated consortia are also eligible to apply.

Decarbonization Considerations

Applications must fall into one of the following areas of interest, all of which are meant to support a clean energy supply chain, clean jobs, and research and development. Areas of interest: 1. Next Generation Phosphate-Based Cathodes; 2. Na-ion Battery Seedling Projects for Electric Vehicle Applications; 3. Low GHG Concepts for Off-Road Vehicles; 4. Saving Energy with Connectivity; 5. Domestically Produced E-Steels; 6. Cybersecurity for Smart and Secure Electric Vehicle Charging.

Equity Considerations

Applicants are highly encouraged to include individuals from groups historically underrepresented in STEM on their project teams. As part of the application, applicants are required to describe how diversity, equity, and inclusion objectives will be incorporated in the project. Specifically, applicants are required to submit a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan that describes the actions the applicant will take to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment, support people from underrepresented groups in STEM, advance equity, and encourage the inclusion of individuals from these groups in the project; and the extent the project activities will be located in or benefit underserved communities.

Helpful Tips

Each area of interest has an estimated funding amount, cost allocation, performance period, and more. See the FOA for specific information.
