Future of Industry Program and Industrial Research and Assessment Centers

Federal Agency

Sub-Department

Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE)

Purpose

To identify opportunities for optimizing energy efficiency and environmental performance at manufacturing and other industrial facilities; to fund a grant program to fund upgrades for small- and medium-sized manufacturers that have been recommended in an assessment from an IAC or CHP TAP.

Applicant and/or Project Eligibility Requirements

An eligible entity is a small- or medium-sized manufacturer that has had an energy assessment completed by an industrial research and assessment center; a DOE Combined Heat and Power Technical Assistance Partnership jointly with an industrial research and assessment center; or a third-party assessor that provides an assessment equivalent to an assessment described in subparagraph (A) or (B), as determined by the Secretary.

Decarbonization Considerations

Programs can equip student trainees to optimize energy efficiency at industrial facilities, decreasing carbon emissions.

Equity Considerations

Education can target underserved communities and give workers access to high-road manufacturing jobs in clean energy. Interested parties should work with the private sector to prioritize the siting of research assessment centers in underserved communities.
